Montessori Kindergarten Math - why it works so well

After 15 years as a math teacher and father of five children, I really saw something new (for me) in mathematics education for the past year that really impressed me.

My (then four years), the son attends a Montessori pre-school class and learned math concepts in a way that I never used the class, nor any of my three older children have learned.

The Montessori approach to mathematics
Math Montessori concept of education is the business continuityabstract more concrete lessons, according to the jargon of "work" Montessori in reality they are just manipulated.

This well-designed, highly specialized items for every "work of mathematics," the abstract ideas more accessible to a child.

Each new work takes the student through a lesson in one-on-one with the teacher.

This command allows the teacher to wait until every student is ready for the next level of abstraction firstinserted.

Step by step progress
Some children) in the nursery my son's class (of different ages were still learning to count in 20:00, while other learning place value and addition and subtraction. But young children, while the method works only understood that it is necessary, counting and one-on to improve the one-to-value and addition and subtraction of the works was the place.

This is to remember a very important concept for children. Can you "ignore" the teaching of mathematics curriculum at the Montessori School (and should not say "jump" in any mathematics curriculum, in my humble.) Son of my colleagues understand that the mastery of each lesson is half in order for a competition in mathematics. This is a wonderful approach for pre-school education in mathematics!

Math is fun!
From the perspective of my son, "works" is used to learn math were almost like toys. He came to play with them inthe teacher showed him and then left the domain of a mathematical concept. In fact, this works very well in mathematics education textbooks to teach a math concept very focused.

There are works by transmitting key skills such as math, measuring, counting, order number, the formation of numbers, 1-1 relations, addition and subtraction, and mathematical concepts. Each time a new math teacher "work" of children who were willingThe following mathematical concept has been very enthusiastic and full of energy to learn a new math skills. They observe and help each other complete tasks and learn from their peers in this way. This is a great opportunity, working groups have the math!

Montessori works as a toy
Some of these mathematical manipulations are wonderful toys and the kitchen "table of classes for parents to do at home, when her children are introduced to mathematical concepts. I am very pleased with the progress my son's help in math contentPreschool Teacher Education Montessori mathematics course that was a great talent, but I think many kids would benefit the use of textbooks in mathematics at a Montessori, too.
